Matz Farmstead Ruins Engagement Photos
If you are looking for a unique outdoor natural location to take your engagement photos near Madison, Wisconsin, I have the perfect place for you! Check out these stunning Matz Farmstead Ruins engagement photos from Bree and Jake's golden hour summer engagement photo session in June 2026. This location is one of my favorite engagement photo locations near Madison in Dane County and South Central Wisconsin.
The Matz Farmstead Ruins are a historic landmark in Cross Plains. The stone farm ruins are 160 years old and sit atop the rolling hills. There are scenic walking trails, including part of the Ice Age trail, near the ruins. The countryside here is incredibly picturesque and provide a unique engagement photo session location near Madison. The ruins are also right across the road from Indian Lake County Park, which is another excellent photo spot.
As the sun was setting over the prairie hills, Bree and Jake walked hand in hand around the farm ruins, cuddling on a picnic blanket, admiring the summer wildflowers, and running barefoot through the prairie grasses. The setting sun glowed on the farm ruins and the wildflowers danced in the breeze. I used some fun techniques for these photos like slow shutter and motion blur to capture their love and joy. I can't wait to photograph their wedding in 2027 in Madison!
