What to Wear for Engagement Photos

Welcome to my new series of informative blog posts that aim to answer everyone's burning questions about being in front of the camera.

Are you currently asking yourself "what should I wear for my engagement photos?" Well, you are in the right place! This post is all about choosing what to wear for your engagement photo session!

What should my partner and I wear for our engagement session?

I have an easy answer for you - wear whatever the heck you want! Wear something that you are comfortable in, something that feels like YOU, something that makes you feel amazing. When considering what to wear, just be yourself.

Still not sure what to wear? Here are some more tips:

1. Choose Solid Colors

Consider wearing solid colors. Bold or neutral solid colors work well for photos. Consider coordinating colors that either compliment or contrast one another. Prints are okay too, but try to stay away from extremely small and busy prints, because these sometimes create a moire affect in the camera.

2. Match the vibe

You and your partner should wear clothing that matches with a similar vibe. A good rule of thumb is to both dress like you are going to the same event, whether that event is formal or casual.

3. Let your location inspire you

Consider the location of the session. Try to find outfits that complement the area you will be having your photos taken. Consider choosing clothing and accessory colors that complement the landscape of the session location. You could choose to wear natural or neutral colors to complement the landscape, or bold and vibrant colors to contrast with the landscape. Either option works! 4. Casual AND Formal

You are often allowed 2 outfits during an engagement session, so consider choosing one casual outfit and one formal outfit to add variety to your photos. Again, you and your partner should match in vibe, so you should both wear your formal outfits at the same time. I highly recommend starting the session wearing the more formal outfit, because formal outfits are often more complicated to change into and dress up. If you need to change into a second outfit on location, switching from formal into casual is much easier than going the opposite way! Plan to bring your second casual outfit to the session, but leave it in the car until it is needed.

5. Keep it simple, but accessorize!

Sometimes simple clothing that you feel comfortable in is the best choice for photos. However, don't forget that simple clothing can be made more fun with exciting accessories! Consider some fun shoes, a statement pair of jeans, or your favorite jewelry to start.

6. Comfort is key

It seems simple, but wear something that you are comfortable in for the photo session. The more comfortable you feel, the more that comfort will show in the photos. Sometimes there is a lot of walking or movement during photo sessions, so wearing clothes that you can move in while still looking nice is always a good idea.

7. Stay True to Yourself

Wear something that feels like YOU. You don't want to feel unlike yourself when you look back at your photos. Consider wearing types of clothing that you wear on a regular basis for your causal outfit. Also consider wearing something that makes you feel amazing for your formal outfit. Dressing up can make you feel like a million bucks, which again, will come across in the photos. When considering what to wear, keep it simple and just be yourself!

Most importantly, wear whatever the heck you want! Anything that makes you feel great will work wonders for a photo session.
